Deep-Dive Into a Bad-A$$ Website
Friday April 1, 2022
Alright folks, last month I went over how to create a Kick-A$$ Marketing Strategy, of which having a Bad-A$$ website is part of the strategy (duh)! So if you’re just starting out in creating your website, or maybe it’s perfect timing and you were *just* thinking about how your site needs a refresh, here are four things you need to keep in mind to create a website that users won’t want to leave:
A Website Audit
You know the song “Should I stay or should I go now?” Ask yourself that as you’re combing through your website doing your website audit! Is something irrelevant now or outdated? It’s gotta go. Is your content all over the place and not flowing well? Time to re-write it!
The point of conducting a website audit is to make sure that the content you have on there is not only an accurate representation of the products or services that you offer, but also that the user experience itself is a good one! No one wants to come to your website to find something they saw you post about on social media, but the user journey is so convoluted that they just give up after 15-seconds. So, be sure to put your “customer” lens on and look at your site through the eyes of a potential customer.
Hello? Is Anyone There?
To further build upon what I just mentioned, ask yourself if your content is telling a story to the RIGHT people. Storytelling is a big part of a modern approach to website design. It engages the visitor, introduces them to your brand, and establishes your identity in a way that stands out from the noise of the Internet.
Your site serves as a portal to your brand or person. It is often the first thing (you have ownership of) that people see when they want to learn more about you. By telling your story in a cohesive way, you can greatly influence how that person identifies with your brand. Add in your brand personality, make the “story” easy to follow, and even think about being transparent about your journey as a small business owner and what you want to accomplish with your business.
A “Face” for Radio
We’ve all heard the saying “You’ve got a face for radio…” Not exactly a compliment, right?! Your website needs to be a balance of eye-catching images, but also have a lot to say. So in a way, it needs to have a “Face for radio!”
Make sure your website is polished and professional looking, as this site is much more likely to generate more leads and enquiries further down the line. Since you’ve *already* got your story on your website told (right?!), keeping customers interested and engaged is the next part. A high-quality, visually impressive website that is 📱 MOBILE FRIENDLY 📱 (CANNOT stress that enough here!!), is absolutely essential for a business to excel online.
A Second Date?
Opt. Ins. I’ll even say it louder for the people in the back: OPT. INS. USE THEM.
Email marketing is still the top way to generate *quality* leads, and in order to actually get a lead INTO your email marketing campaign, they must be put in there WILLINGLY, by filling out an opt-in form.
So, for example, you visit a website and a pop-up window appears asking you to enter your email address to receive a discount or even something free like a pdf with tips/tricks. If someone fills that out, you know they are interested in your products or services, and are more likely to buy!
Another important, more *legal* aspect to consider is that by willingly filling out an opt-in form, this person is acknowledging and aware that you are collecting their information.
