As with all technology, each year brings us new platforms and new ways to use social media. Social media and tech experts have gotten quite good at predicting what people and businesses can expect from social each year. With 2020 in the rearview, having a sneak peek at what’s to come will help businesses be more strategic with their marketing in the forthcoming months.

Easy to Consume Content

 

Marketers focus heavy on getting attention but often fail in the follow through - keeping that attention. Moving forward brands are looking at creating short, easy-to-consume content that’s perfect for TikTok, Instagram or Facebook Stories, and Instagram Reels but also make an impact regardless of the social media channel. These short-form videos are a great way to leverage your brand by not only getting attention from your target audience but encouraging them to come back for more. This only works for brands who do it consistently, however!

 

Gotta Go Live

 

I know you’ve been avoiding it but even more businesses and brands will embrace live video in 2021. Over a year ago, 1 in 5 videos on Facebook were actually live videos and YouTube was seeing a surge in hours watched. 2020 just increased the demand and need for online video as people were stuck at home seeking ways to connect and be entertained from home. We’ve trained people to consume content online! If you want to capitalize on this, you’ll have to get comfortable with video, including live video.

This is no surprise to us, it’s really been the best way to be successful on social media for years. However, big brands are taking notes and will change their social media efforts to become more conversational and human in tone. With a move away from sales-focused content, brands are understanding that human connection is what builds the necessary trust to convert followers into customers. Content created for social media should be educational, helpful, or inspirational in tone to nurture a follower into a lead naturally. Last, but never least, YOU are the key to your success on social media.
