You’ve probably heard that people are bolting from Facebook to use Instagram as their social media marketing channel of choice. And, with certain audiences, they aren’t wrong. The younger the generation, the more likely you’ll find them on Instagram. Does that mean you should be on Insta this year?


Why Instagram?


Why should your business be on Instagram? Isn’t that platform just for young women selling lipstick? Well, technically, YES!, but it’s also great if your target audience includes people between the ages of 18 and 30. Younger generations are disillusioned by Instagram’s big brother, Facebook, and prefer to scroll the Gram instead. This social media channel could be a great place for you to chat about your product or service with this age group.


Plus, organic engagement (people liking and commenting on your posts) is much better on Instagram than on any other social media marketing channel right now (especially if you learn the hashtag game).


Algorithms Matter


Remember the Facebook algorithm? We’re bringin’ it back! Much like Facebook, the more people that engage with your content on Instagram, the more your content will show up in their newsfeeds organically. This is the goal folks! Get out there and share content that inspires people to interact with you.


Hashtag Strategy


Hashtags are the way people discover your content on Instagram. When you use a hashtag (#bestcontentever) you want to make sure you’re selecting hashtags that people are using so they’re more likely to find your content! In fact, Instagram is the ONE platform that allows users to follow hashtags so you’ll want to find the right ones for your brand and use them so that your content shows up in those feeds. On Insta, you can use up to 30 hashtags so spend some time doing research and picking the right ones.


Quality Content


IT ALWAYS COMES BACK TO CONTENT! Content is literally the personality of your business. If your personality is boring… sorry… we just can’t. And neither will anyone else. Same goes if all you talk about is your product, service, or business. This is not the way to make social media marketing work for your biz.


Instagram specifically needs beautiful imagery. People enjoy good imagery and anything that makes them ‘feel the feels’ if you will. Share a story that other people can relate to!


Also, stock photos won’t cut it. You don’t have to spend thousands on professional photography either. Instagram users prefer raw, real, and authentic so pull out that smartphone and get snapping!
