What’s the Point of a Blog?
Wednesday June 1, 2022
Alright, I’m just going to dive right into this one! Because there’s no time like the present… am I right?! (Yes, I am 😉😉)
The purpose of a blog is to provide content on your website that answers your prospective customers' questions and helps them learn about your product or service. #FunFact: It *also* expands your brand's visibility by giving the Google machine and other search engines content to index and serve up in search results. Blogs tell Google that your site is still up to date and relevant since content is consistently being posted on it, so it’s more likely to pull your site higher up in the search rankings.
A blog also positions you as an expert in your industry, further deepening that trust level with your current and potential customers! Other professionals and your customers will see that you are keeping up with the latest news in your field and being transparent with all that is going on with your business! Even better, you can chop up your blog and use portions of it for social media content AND your newsletter. Every time you create a new article, you're also creating content that people can share on their own social platforms— which helps expose your business to a new audience that may not know you yet. #Winning
Each blog post is also an opportunity to generate new leads. All you need to do is add a lead-generating call-to-action on every post. This can be something like a free e-book, whitepaper, one-pager/fact sheet, or webinar; basically, any content asset that is going to prompt someone to put their information in there and get what you are offering!
A blog is also a great place for some cross promotion between your business and someone else. You can have a guest blogger, share an interview with another thought leader that would be beneficial to your customers, or highlight your “power-partners” for example! Remember, the best business blogs answer common questions their readers and customers have. If you consistently create valuable content or articles for your target audience, it'll establish you as an industry leader or authority in their eyes, and will lead them to coming back for more!
In a nutshell, blogging drives website traffic and promotes your products and services, but it also helps you build trust with your potential customers. And we all know that customers are wayyyyy more likely to do business with a company that they trust.
